About Me
My name is Ian Gallaugher and I am the creator of Isolated Player
Value. I have been obsessed with accurately evaluating quarterback
performance since I was 13 years old and saw Russell Wilson win a
Super Bowl in his second year as a 3rd round draft pick. NFL teams
miss on quarterback prospects every year, falling in love with
players who look the part and overlooking the underlying flaws in
their game then rushing them into action before they're ready and
stunting their development. Furthermore, discussion of quarterback
performance in mainstream sports media is severely lacking with
analysts focused on hot takes and throwing around terms like "system
QB" and "game manager" without providing a full understanding of the
skillset a player brings to the table isolated from the talent
around him. How can we control for the influences of scheme,
surrounding talent and quality of competition to arrive at an
understanding of a QB's true value? IPV is the culmination of years
studying the position and refining my proprietary formulas to
attempt to answer this question.
I worked as an undergraduate recruiting volunteer for the Boston
College football team, helping cut up film and evaluate players for
a P4 FBS team. I am also co-Director of Metro Boston Sports Group, a
youth flag football organization, and the 12U Metro Boston Select
team I coach will be competing at NFL Flag Nationals this Summer for
the third straight year - and this time we're winning it all. I have
never played football at any level, though I have loved the game my
entire life. It is a legitimate critique that it is difficult to
accurately evaluate others performance at something you've never
done yourself. I welcome feedback from current or former players, or
anyone, and am always eager to learn more about the game. All I ask
is that you evaluate my work on its merits and give IPV a fair
hearing. Also, check out my highlight reel below from the adult
division Super Bowl in the Metro Boston Flag Football League last
year, that has to count for something right?
